Samsung Galaxy Ace Android 2.3 Gingerbread Firmware Leaks

Samsung is quite popular for poor software support of their Android smartphones. The company only committed to releasing the Android OS updates for the Galaxy S handsets, and never mentioned anything about other Galaxy branded handsets.
The company did release the Android 2.2 FroYo update for the Galaxy 3, but has kept mum on the Galaxy S L and the Galaxy Ace Android 2.3 Gingerbread update.

However, it looks like the Galaxy Ace will get the Gingerbread love from Samsung. The folks over at SamFirmware have managed to get their hands on a leaked Gingerbread firmware for the Ace.
Users who flashed this firmware on their handset did report some performance and stability issues. The leaked ROM has quite a few bugs as well. Other than this, the ROM features some updated items and the new goodies brought about by the Android OS update.
This leak does confirm that the Galaxy Ace will get the Gingerbread update from Samsung. Hopefully, Samsung will also release the Android 2.3 Gingerbread RM for the Galaxy S L. Nevertheless, it’s still nice to see Samsung releasing Android OS updates for a mid-range phone.
Interested Galaxy Ace owners can head over to SamFirmware.com and download the leaked Gingerbread firmware for their handset.
You wil also get a step by step update process from TECH2GET. Don't worry if you are not understanding the update process .

All in one Android Phone Management Software for SMS, Contacts and Media

I never liked Samsung Kies and used Windows Explorer for File and Media Management on Android Phone. Somehow, it is not so convenient and didn’t had option to backup Contacts and Messages. So, Dedicated Phone Management software was necessary.
Mobile Go software specially designed for Android Smartphones to manage Multimedia Files (Audio, Video and Photos), Contacts, Messages and many more!
Installation of MobileGo requires Mobile USB drivers to be already installed which if not, setup will prompt, download and install itself. Before connecting your phone to PC, USB Debugging mode should be activated as it installs MobileGo Daemon on Phone.
Interface of MobileGo is classified according to type of Files ad Content namely Contacts, SMS Messages, Music, Movies and Photos. You can add / edit / backup / restore Messages and Contacts in one click. Also, the Music and Movie management lets you organize playlists, add new songs to library or set them as ringtone.
Along with Data Management, it supports SMS / Contacts and Application Backup on demand which can be restored when needed. In my case however, it didn’t detect any Appliction installed (maybe because of Custom ROM) but SMS and Contacts backup worked fine.

Wondershare MobileGo is really a wondrous software and worth a try for complete Android Phone Management right from Windows Desktop.

Top 5 Phones Under Rs. 5000 in 2011

We all love to use and read about high-end smartphones. But the truth is that a majority of India's population still buys phones that are priced below Rs. 5,000. This little fact went down rather well with all the Indian cell phone manufacturers, who were more than willing to flood the market with their cheap, Chinese toys. Of course, those who value quality even at this price range know better than to stay away from such phones. But then what options are they left with? Luckily for them, some of the more established players in the mobile phone segment still have some good phones to offer in this price range and so today, we will be listing them out for you, so you won't ever have to think about going for a Micromax, Maxx Mobile, Karbonn, Lava, Zen, BlackCherry, Lemon, Orange, Pineapple and so on.
The top 5 tech2get picks are as follows :

1: Nokia 5030 - Rs. 1,556

Just want a basic phone for making calls and messages and occasionally to listen to the radio? Then the Nokia 5030 is just for you. It looks fairly attractive for a phone in this price range and best of all has a built-in FM radio that does not even require you to plug in the headset. It also has a sizable 1.8-inch 128 x 160 resolution display, built-in flashlight and a 1020mAh battery that is rated to give up to 10 hours of talk time on a single charge.

2. Samsung E2370 - Rs. 2,689

The Samsung E2370 is for those who want a tough phone. It is IP54 certified and is splash, shock and dust proof. You can drop it from the height of several feet or submerge the phone in water and it will still work fine. It also has a handy flashlight built-in, 128 x 160 resolution display, microSD card slot with MP3 playback, stereo FM radio with recording, VGA camera with video recording and a massive 2000mAh battery, which can give up to 22 hours of talk time.

3. Samsung Champ C3303 - Rs. 3,799

If you thought it would be impossible to get a decent touchscreen phone in this price range then you were wrong. The Samsung Champ is a cute and trendy touchscreen phones that comes with a lot of features for its price. For starters, it has a 2.4-inch 320 x 240 resistive touchscreen display. It also has a 1.3 megapixel VGA resolution camera with video recording, microSD card slot, 3.5mm headphone jack, stereo loudspeakers and Bluetooth connectivity. It also comes with all your social networking applications built-in. The phone is available in four color options: black, white, pink and wine red.

4. Sony Ericsson Cedar - Rs. 4,852

Now that 3G has finally arrived on our shores, it makes sense to invest in a 3G enabled handset if you are someone who browses a lot on their phone. And it's not just your run-of-the-mill UMTS support that phones in this price range usually come with. The Cedar supports HSDPA up to speeds of 7.2Mbps and HSUPA up to speed of 2Mbps, which is pretty darn good for a phone in this price range. The phone also comes with a good built-in web browser and you can even connect it to your computer and use it as a 3G modem. The phone also has a nice compact form-factor with an attractive design and solid build, a good display, comfortable keypad and a 3.5mm headphone jack for listening to music with your own headphones.

5. Motorola EX115 - Rs. 4,749

A little known phone from Motorola, the EX115 is the one to get if you want a phone with a QWERTY keypad in this price range. For starters, it is a dual SIM phone, has a large 2.3-inch QVGA display and a 3 megapixel camera. It has a microSD card slot and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It's a Motorola phone, so you can expect great build and call quality. When compared with the likes of the Samsung Chat 322 and the Nokia X2-01, the EX115 comes out on top as it has a better display than the Chat 322 and a better camera than both of them.

Free Video Calls on iPod, iPhone,Android and Symbian with Front / Rear Camera Support

Mobile Video Calling is still not so affordable and many a times not utilized to full potential owing to restrictions and hurdles. Thanks to Apps, Smartphones today, allows free video calling over 3G / 4G / WiFi or simply any data connection.
Here I list some cross platform Applications for Mobile Devices which lets free voice calls and Live Video calls over any Data Connection.

Tango

Tango is quite new application and my favorite just because of its simplicity. You don’t need to make a profile either; you just install Tango, start it up and you’re ready to make video calls. Tango scans your Contacts and find friends who are already using Tango or you can also invite some from Address Book.
Tango works over both Wi-Fi and 3G and connects iOS (iPhone and iPod Touch) and Android devices. It’s easy to turn video on and off during a Tango call. Also, you can switch between Front Facing and Rear Facing Camera during calls. Visit Tango
I tried it on Airtel EDGE, Video Calling works but continuous streaming is problem, you get Still image many a times so 3G or WiFi is recommended.

Fring

Fring is another popular application which is also available for Nokia / Symbian Devices. Fring enables video calls between iOS and Android devices and works over 3G, but it requires you to create a profile and is a little more complex than Tango. Visit Fring

Qik

Qik allows you to connect over 3G and WiFi and works for both Android and iOS devices. As of now, Video Chat feature is limited to few Mobile Devices. Along with Video Calling, it supports Video Sharing called as Video Mail which are uploaded to your Qik Account. Visit Qik.
Data Charges apply as per your plan but still I would say it is far cheaper than Video Call rates implemented by Mobile Networks.

Android 2.2 on Samsung Wave (BADA OS) , Froyo running on Wave S8500

Samsung Wave is quite a popular ad powerful smartphone released last year. It has everything concerned with hardware specification but only low down point is its operating system – BADA and its restrictive environment.
Though, we tried WaveSpoofer to install cracked apps on BADA but still, Samsung Wave owners always wanted to have Android running on their devices and Polish hackers have successfully ported Android 2.2.1 of Samsung Galaxy S to Wave S8500 equipped with BADA.

This project is named as AndroBADA and it is in Alpha stages, facing problem with RAM and CPU access. It isn’t available for testing purpose for public and still in private Beta.
As this phone was releases along with Samsung Galaxy S and customers always wanted to have Android running on Wave. And, this porting makes somewhat sense instead of porting Ubuntu and Windows to smartphones which is just experimental resulting out of curiosity.
I would be happy if Hackers become successful and release the development ROM for Wave users as the device is fully capable of running it boasting 1GHz CPU and 512MB RAM

How To Hide Specific Photos and Videos From Android Gallery ( Tried it on Samsung galaxy ace)

Many of us, or I must say, almost all of us have images and videos on our Android devices, we want hidden from other people. By default there is no option to exclude a specific folder from gallery, you can password protect your files using some application from the market but none comes with out a hefty price tag.

Yesterday night I was doing some research on my Samsung Galaxy S and got a superb idea as to how you can hide a folder from Gallery and stock file manager. The application used in this process is free to download from market.
1.As stock File Manager for Android is not adequate to do the trick, download and Install Astro File Manager from market. The application is free to download and use.
2.Now select the Folder you want to hide from the gallery and long press on it. Suggest to create a new folder and later import all your private data in it.
3.On the File Options popup menu, tap on edit and select rename.

4.While renaming just put a period(.) in front of the folder and confirm.
5. From now on that folder will be treated as system folder and will be hidden from your Gallery and stock File manager.
6.Now just import all your private files and folders into that folder using Astro File Manager and live a tension free life.
